She learned to read using Braille and learned to speak with the help of her teacher. What an inspiration! In class we made our own ‘Braille’ names, practiced writing our own name in Braille, and tried colouring pictures, making models and moving around without seeing.

For Roald Dahl day, we read some of The Twits and looked at the character if Mr Twit. We pretended to comb through his beard to see what disgusting things we could find and then made our own Mr Twit beard. Yuck!

Look at all the different activities we did this week relating to our senses. We looked in particular at sight and the challenges faced by those who are blind. We found that we couldn’t read ordinary books and so learned about Braille and made our own Braille names. We tried lots of activities using our blindfolds too; playing guess the object, help a friend along an obstacle course, threading bobbins, drawing pictures and building towers. Then we made cool funky glasses with coloured lenses. Lots of fun!

In RE this week we talked about our families, how they are all different and lots of ways that they show us love. We made heart puppets of ourselves, members of our family and a special love heart to say thank you to God for giving us amazing families to love and care for us.
