Intent:
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) is a subject in which the children are given experiences, knowledge and skills to be confident, happy and responsible individuals. Learners are provided with safe and respectful learning environments where they are able to develop their teamwork and social skills, are nurtured, and learn to be compassionate and aspirational individuals who know how to be safe, and are prepared for the life ahead of them.
Implement
At SMG we use the Lancashire published scheme: Lancashire, Live Well, Learn Well model to deliver our PHSE curriculum in line with the National Curriculum programme of study. Some lessons are also supported by using the online scheme: Discoveryeducation.co.uk
The PHSE journey begins in our EYFS by using the Early years framework as a foundation. At SMG our units of work give every child an equal opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive now and in the future.
For the Relationships topic we follow the 'Journey in Love' programme which is recommended by Lancaster Diocese.
PHSE in our school is taught through both discrete PSHE lessons, and also through cross curricular lessons, assemblies, extra curricular events, visitors and school trips. we use the 'My Happy Mind' programme to support our PHSE curriculum.
Our school offers additional support to individuals and families via our Family Support worker, our learning mentor and our SEN teacher.
Impact
We foster healthy and informed pupils who have positive attitudes towards relationships, physical and mental health, drugs and alcohol, nutrition and health and Physical wellbeing.
